About The Author

Jeffery Freeman

Jeffery Freeman is a passionate and experienced football coach with over 18 years on the sidelines—from assistant to head coach and everything in between. A lifelong athlete and dedicated mentor, Jeffery has committed his career to developing young athletes, building competitive programs, and instilling the values of hard work, discipline, and accountability both on and off the field.
With a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and an emphasis in Physical Education, Jeffery has also served as an athletic director, giving him a well-rounded understanding of the administrative, cultural, and personal challenges of coaching at the high school level in California. His leadership extends beyond the field—he trains like an athlete to this day and competes in Spartan races, embracing the mindset he instills in his students: never stop pushing, never stop growing.
His debut book, West Coast Gridiron: A Comprehensive Account of Becoming a Head Coach in California, is part memoir, part guidebook. It provides a candid, unfiltered look into the real-life journey of becoming a head coach—from overcoming personal setbacks and managing school politics to mentoring players and refining coaching philosophy. Jeffery’s voice is raw, honest, and grounded in lived experience.
